SMMT – car registrations data sales fell by 11.2% in November, the 8th consecutive month that sales have declined.
Meanwhile diesel sales comtinued to fall to 37.7% of the market from 48.3% in Nov 2016. Actual diesel sales fell 30.6% while petrol and alternatively fuelled vehicle sales rose 5% and 33.1% respectively. Final diesel market share for 2017 should close at around 42% on current trends down from 47.7% for 2016 when December figures come in next month.
The fall was triggered by the introduction of George Osbourne’s luxury car tax for cars over £40k which added £1,500 in VED & by the rapid fall in sales of diesel vehicles.
